Jones Apparel Group Inc. has entered an agreement with Inter Parfums Inc. to develop women’s fragrances under the Nine West brand.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Under the agreement, Firmenich—an international fragrance-design company—will create the initial Nine West fragrance for Inter Parfums and Jones. That product is expected to launch in the fall of 2011 in “better department stores, specialty retailers and Nine West retail stores,” Jones says.

The initial agreement runs through the end of 2016, with a provision for further renewal. Inter Parfums develops and distributes fragrances such as Burberry and Paul Smith, and it develops personal-care products for retailers such as Banana Republic, New York & Co. Inc. and Bebe Stores Inc.

“We are excited to be working with best-in-class partners, Inter Parfums and Firmenich, as we begin the creative journey of extending Nine West into this new world of fragrance,” says Richard Dickson, Jones’s chief executive of branded businesses.

In April, Jones said it posted a sharply higher first-quarter profit and boosted its full-year revenue guidance, as better demand and improved margins helped to increase its results. Meanwhile, Inter Parfums in May said its first-quarter profit rose 21% as sales jumped 32%.
